Hey, I've wrangled some ornery animals in my day. Horses, cattle, pissy stray cats, chased off snakes. A little punch from another fella aint gonna do me no harm.
[He's also fought with other kids back in the country who used to mock him for his mom being gone, calling her all kinds of dirty names. Even if he didn't ever know his mom Dad loved her and he would gladly deck any kid who made fun of her.]
I've always wanted what my parents had, and... I think we can have that, Keith. It won't be easy, but if we're determined, I think we can keep it. I want to have that with you. I know it's soon, but... I just know.
[A bright, true grin crosses Matt's face at Keith's words. He leans over, hugging him close for a long moment before he pulls back, almost breathless.]
Me either. I didn't really mind the thought of being alone, but... I'm glad that I won't be.
[For a glorious few moments, he puts his head on Keith's shoulder, just holding his hand. Sure, they'll have to go somewhere eventually, but for now, they can just be together.]
Well, now you won't have to be. I'll make time to see you every day if you want.
[He wonders how long they can get away with staying here. Keith still needs to taste some of the alcohol Matt provides the bar, and if another slow song plays, maybe they can dance.]
I'd love that. One day, I'd like you to meet Mom and Pidge. I know they'll love you.
[And they will absolutely adore him. Colleen will fuss over him, and Pidge will ask a million questions about school.
No one in this particular bar will care how long they're there. Everyone knows Matt and most people are just so glad that he has someone who he so clearly cares about.
After a few moments, the song switches to something slower, a familiar love song.]
And I want you to meet Shiro and Adam. They're great, and I know they'll love you just as much. May even thank you for bein' my friend since they've been worried 'bout me bein' all alone.
[Keith immediately recognizes this song, he's heard it many times before and it's always somewhat resonated with him. And now that he has someone he loves, who loves him back...]
[Matt beams, leading him out onto the dance floor and wrapping his arms around him. Most of the dancers only have a passing acquaintance with either rhythm or actual dance moves, so even though he doesn't know any kind of dances, it's certainly not out of place.]
I've always wanted to dance with someone. Didn't think I'd get to.
any song in mind? Cause when I looked up ballads from the 20s I saw "Always" by Irving Berlin...
Hey, it's the same for me. Feels like you were meant to come into my life, Matt, and now I can't imagine it without you.
[Always, the lyrics hum in his mind, and nothing could ring more true right now. He knows he's crazy, falling in love so damn fast, and he doesn't care. And I don't care what society's gotta say, they can't stop us!]

[His eyes go sharp and determined]
I'm pretty handy in a fight, so if anyone tries to lay a hand on you, I'll give 'em hell.
no subject
[Matt can't help a small smirk at that, but his face softens at Keith's determination to protect him.]
I don't want you to get hurt on my account. I do tend to get beat up a decent amount, sorry.

[He reaches out again and puts his hand on Keith's cheek, then cards his hand through his hair gently and lovingly.]
I don't like the thought of you getting hurt. I'd fight for you too, you know. I'm not very good at it, but I'd damn well try.

[He nuzzles Matt's hand, sighing contentedly.]
I want us to be just like them.

I love you.

I love you too.

[And then, suddenly, Matt pulls away, to stand and hold out a hand.]
Keith... will you dance with me?
no subject
It'd be my pleasure.
[He's not even too worried about being bad at it now, he'll just...try his best.]

any song in mind? Cause when I looked up ballads from the 20s I saw "Always" by Irving Berlin...
[He leans into Matt's embrace, moving his feet along with the slow, gentle rhythm]
Glad I could be your first, though.
ooh, I'll go with that. I didn't have anything in mind, no.
[Which is, in his opinion, so much better for him. Blushing a bit, he falls into the dance's sway easily.]
You're... well, my first everything. Haven't even kissed anyone before.

[The soulful melody wraps around him like a blanket, mingling with the warmth of Matt's arms around him.]

[It feels A Lot to say, and it's possibly too quick, but he can't deny everything he's feeling.
Stepping just a bit closer, he puts his head gently on Keith's shoulder, just holding him as they slowly dance.]

[He sighs, holding him close for a moment, before the music changes to something faster and he pulls back just a bit, still holding his hand.]
Do you want to sit down again?
no subject
[He's thirsty for something cooler, and he's not into fast-dancing.]
So how long've you got to stick around here? Adam and Shiro aint expectin' me for another few hours.
no subject
[He blushes.]
Just... however long I can spend with you, really.

[Sure, the city gets dangerous at night, but he knows how to fight and he'll protect Matt from anything he needs to.
A waiter drops by, and Keith turns to Matt.]
So what would you recommend for a guy who doesn't drink too often? Don't wanna make a fool of myself.
