Milliways - The Bar at the End of the Universe. Multi-verse open RP!

It always starts with a door. A door opens, and instead of a bathroom, an office building, a coffee shop, a closet, there's a bar in that space.

Wooden chairs, tables, and booths are scattered around the room, with some overstuffed chairs and a fireplace with fish dancing in the flames. To one side is a trilobite tank, tiny creatures swimming around merrily. To the other side is a window, the Great Observation Window, where one can sit back and watch the universe end in explosions of starstuff. Don't worry. It repeats every day. And the bar never explodes. Or so everyone hopes.

The bar itself is well-stocked, with any beverage from any universe. Just ask Bar, and she'll produce whatever is requested. Really. She's sentient, so don't be mean. You might get poisoned. Or the curry might bodyswap you with your neighbor.

Out back is a lake with a giant squid, a forest, and a grassy open space. Underneath the bar is a garage with vehicles of all sorts, and there are rooms upstairs for sleeping or other activities.

So, come in, take a load off, and have a drink. Just remember the three rules: No outside business in the bar, take violence out back, and take sex upstairs.

Drink up!

Lord knew Adachi needed a good drink, and whatever higher power that was really out there decided to grant that. Sure there was the usual confusion of suddenly appearing in a bar when you were in the middle of your everyday at first, but he got over it quickly, because the place had the answer to his desperate needs.

Beer in hand, he plopped himself over by the fireplace, not at all bothered by the first swimming around in the flames. Sure it was weird, but weird what on par for the course when it came to his life, but at the same time it was kind of therapeutic. He could compare it to watching a lava lamp, at least.

Now excuse him while he gets a little drunk.
wantedittobeagame: (W-well then...)

[personal profile] wantedittobeagame 2015-09-05 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Adachi glanced in her direction, raising an eyebrow at her over his beer. He finished taking a large swig of it, before answering.

"That's a pretty long list; you sure you want that rant?"
wantedittobeagame: (If you say so...)

[personal profile] wantedittobeagame 2015-09-05 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Adachi paused a moment, before giving a shrug.

"Well, there's the usual going on in the department," Adachi replied, before letting out a sigh. "I can have a better outlook all I want, but in the end, the other detectives in Inaba... kinda suck."
wantedittobeagame: (Err...)

[personal profile] wantedittobeagame 2015-09-05 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not really... erm, well, except for that," he muttered, running a hand through his hair. "Things have gotten pretty quiet since then."

OH HEY I CAN USE THE GHOST ADACHI HERE

[personal profile] peculiarjester 2015-09-05 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
When you're a ghost, there's a lot of reasons to want a drink. For one, there was the fact that you were cursed to haunt the lands instead of passing on. Another reason is that you're forced to watch the brats that took your life in the first place. But above all, the biggest reason to want to drink is all the unnecessary Ghostbusters jokes at your expense.

So of course, the ghost saw no reason to object to a bar showing up. Grabbing a drink, he placed himself near the window, clearly enjoying what was going on outside.
wantedittobeagame: (EEEHHH?!)

[personal profile] wantedittobeagame 2015-09-05 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Adachi... was starting to think he had one too many. Seeing another version of him wasn't too much of a shock really; there was enough people that beat alternate realities being A Thing in his head that he knew better. The problem with this whole situation was the fact that he could see right through him.

WHAT?!

He stared down at his drink, like it would tell him that he really was seeing things, but that translucent Adachi was still very much there. This was so weird...

So of course the natural reaction was to get closer and try and poke him.

The ghost was enjoying his drink, only to notice that someone was trying to touch him with no luck. Sighing as he put his drink down, Adachi turned around, only to find that he was staring at himself.

Well, this was new.

How the hell were you supposed to react to seeing another version of yourself, one that's alive no less?

"Ah... hello there?"
wantedittobeagame: (Feeling queasy...)

[personal profile] wantedittobeagame 2015-09-05 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, hey," Adachi replied absently, frowning when he saw his hand going right through the guy. So how was he drinking a beer? Where was it even going?

...did ghosts piss?

He frowned to himself, before finally looking up at him. There were about a million questions on his mind and all of them were pretty terrible and rude, but he wasn't sure where to start.

"...so you're kinda dead, hunh?"

Perfect.

Yu is not exactly sure where to start with this place. He's not surprised by it, not really - he goes through so many strange things in his life that finding a random bar seems no less normal than anything else. But he is astounded by it. There's so much to do and see and he's not sure where to go first!

In the end he ends up looking at the window before anything else, as he glances up and sees what's happening. Now that is a little different, now that is the one thing that could have him surprised. Seeing the universe end isn't exactly a daily occurrence.

He's barely made it out of the doorway and he's blocking the way of anyone else who wants to come in. Maybe he should be led inside, because until he is, he's just going to look like a dumb fish standing there with his eyes wide open.

Good thing Yosuke is there to tug him along, eh? Just like always. Yosuke grabs his sleeve and pulls him on in, rolling his eyes. "What's got you so weird? It's just a bar." He hasn't looked up yet.

[personal profile] fillintheblanks 2016-02-02 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"No," Yu says, and points upwards. "It's not." He glares in response to the eye roll, because he did catch it.

Yosuke shrugs in response to the glare and glances upwards. "Uh," he says, his mouth suddenly dry because he's not stupid and he knows exactly what's going on out there. "I don't know what to make of that."

[personal profile] fillintheblanks 2016-02-04 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Me either." Yu considers it and then steps further into the bar, trying to look at the place around them instead of the scariness above. "It's nothing like we've seen before."

A bar appearing out of nowhere is nothing, after the TV world. It's even more negligible after nearly a year of Liminal Space and its associated shenanigans. And Naoki's certainly not going to be bothered by handling a bartending shift, even if some of the customers are more insistent on things like legal drinking ages than he can quite bring himself to be.

(It'd be one thing at home. It'd be one thing if he hadn't run a bar for centuries, that one jaunt. But this isn't home, and he does have that experience, so everyone else can deal with it.)

What is noteworthy, though, are the people who come in sometimes - especially since this is the first time Naoki can think of that he might be meeting someone from home. "Narukami-san?"
fillintheblanks: (112)

[personal profile] fillintheblanks 2016-02-02 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It takes Yu a moment to realize someone's spoken to him and when he realizes it, he's more relieved than anything else. He heads on over to Naoki, striding fast. "What is that?" he asks, gesturing at the window, but keeping his eyes fixed on the boy before him. He refuses to look back up. "Also, why are we here?"

In his timeline, he knows Naoki well enough to be casual with him.
leftbehindagain: (inconsequential)

[personal profile] leftbehindagain 2016-02-02 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
...Or he's not so lucky. Probably shouldn't have gotten his hopes up in the first place. Still, they can probably figure out enough to have a decent conversation, so he keeps the sigh to himself.

"Well, what do you expect from a bar at the end of the universe? It doesn't come in, but it can be a little disconcerting. As for why we're here, your guess is as good as mine."
fillintheblanks: (112)

[personal profile] fillintheblanks 2016-02-04 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"A bar at the end of the universe," Yu repeats slowly, taking his time with each and every word. He's mulling over them, trying to decide whether he's shocked or not, and in the end he decides only a little. "Is... anyone else here?"
leftbehindagain: (planning squad)

[personal profile] leftbehindagain 2016-02-04 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sometimes. The better question's whether they're from the same timeline or not. Inaba's apparently popular for that crap, for some reason."

They can start from there, and figure out how detailed of an explanation Narukami-san's going to need as they go along.
fillintheblanks: (054)

[personal profile] fillintheblanks 2016-02-04 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Timeline." This is interesting enough to distract Yu from the window entirely and he looks at Naoki with interest. "You mean different things may have happened to you than I know of?"
leftbehindagain: (chopped liver)

[personal profile] leftbehindagain 2016-02-04 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Almost certainly, though you're off to a good start with the name. For some reason you end up with a different one a lot." Souji-san's not a bad guy, just... a bit odd. And the fact that the name thing happens at all is possibly the strangest thing out of the timeline variations.

"Are you mixed up in the case?"

If he is, he'll know what Naoki means... and that'll confirm they're on different timelines.
fillintheblanks: (100)

[personal profile] fillintheblanks 2016-02-04 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yu looks both suspicious and surprised, and glances back and forth before leaning in a little. "Are you?" he asks quietly. Because as far as he knew, Naoki had helped a few times but was mostly uninvolved.
leftbehindagain: (you thought about exploring the TV world)

[personal profile] leftbehindagain 2016-02-04 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Instead of answering out loud, Naoki just holds out a hand - and that sure is a Hanged Man card twirling over it. He doesn't summon, though, even though he probably could here.

"Who's your Wild Card?"
fillintheblanks: (106)

[personal profile] fillintheblanks 2016-02-04 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh boy. It takes a moment to get over that, but after that moment passes, Yu takes it in stride well enough. It certainly changes the way he looks at Naoki, though.

"I don't think you'd like that answer," he says with a slight laugh.
leftbehindagain: (Default)

[personal profile] leftbehindagain 2016-02-04 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hanamura? Seriously?" ...Well, he supposes Hanamura meets all the criteria, more or less, but still. (And really, for Narukami-san to suspect he wouldn't like the answer, there's only one person it can be.) Either way, that protest is a lot milder than Narukami-san might expect it to be.

"Kanji's mine. When is it for you?"
fillintheblanks: (112)

[personal profile] fillintheblanks 2016-02-04 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
The protest is a lot milder and Yu is surprised by this, but he doesn't press about it. He assumes it's another timeline difference and wonders what could happen in a timeline to make Naoki soften towards his best friend.

"July. Kanji's your Wild Card?" Thinking about it, Yu supposes it makes sense. Kanji had a lot of potential and it just needed to be explored.

They're never going to be best buds or anything, but nearly a year of rescuing people from their own neuroses given physical form is a great way to drive home the point that no one doesn't have problems. Besides, they do have a little common ground.

"He sure is. Who else would he start investigating with? Who else did he have to start investigating with?"

Answer: Pretty much no one. He'd scared them all off, except Naoki.

"March. You guys probably still have a ways to go yet, but we're done."
fillintheblanks: (Default)

[personal profile] fillintheblanks 2016-02-05 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
"How many people are investigating with you? We had very few members until recently." They still only have four, it feels like they ought to have more, but that was how things went - the hard things had to be done by the minority.

"Eight total, by the end. Including Ted."

Teddie being... himself, there's no way he wouldn't come bother someone sticking their nose into his space.

He has a very good feeling about it, and he trusts his own instincts.

There's no hiding the way Naoki's breath catches at the mention of his sister. That in itself is probably enough to tell Yu what happened, but what he says next confirms it.

"We didn't start looking into things until... after. And I don't know if we would have had enough time to do anything if we'd started earlier."
