See, I always thought they were more like bzzt, bzzt, bzzt.
[Nah, you're thinking of electrical shocks, lasers explode more! Like, kapow pow pow! Lance says. hunk interjects with something more explosive and epic, while Krolia adds my lover once told me they had more of a beeping sound to them.
And Allura is actually laughing this time. Kolivan, meanwhile, just rolls his eyes.]
[Hunk gladly takes Matt by the arm so he can lead him into the kitchen. Lucky for you, I just happened to go on a gathering spree last night! There's the usual food goo, but we've got plenty of herbs and spices and things to fancy it up with. And make completely different dishes with!]
[And I'll come with! Just to supervise. Hunk, who was perfectly easygoing the whole time despite the others' varying tension at having Galra on board, suddenly has his brows furrowed.
Don't mind him, he's very protective of the kitchen, Allura explains. Especially after Shiro attempted to cook breakfast one morning. It was...not pleasant.]
Stars above, don't let Shiro anywhere near a kitchen! He found a way to mess up rehydrating freeze dried peas. Dad was furious!
[Matt shakes his head, smiling at Hunk disarmingly.]
Hey, ask Pidge. I cooked a lot at home. I'm not going to trash your kitchen, I promise. In fact, you can be there to stop me if I'm about to do something awful.
[Shiro cringes, burying his face in his hand. Don't remind me. Pidge grins over at Hunk, reassuringly.
Mom insisted her kids learn to cook just in case we ever found ourselves stranded with no one to help us. That, and so she could have a night off once in a while.]
[Don't get Matt wrong! She likes cooking and taking care of us, but she's got a life outside that. Plus, Dad already does his share of the housework, and us Holts are a team, Pidge says.]
Mom does a lot of the cooking for the Blades, but that's mainly because most of them can't cook. Regris is the only other person who knows how to make something edible... [He shudders] Don't let Antok near the kitchen. Just. Never.
[Keith squeezes Matt's hand on instinct, nodding firmly.]
So, um...we should go, then?
[Yes, dinner's not gonna make itself! I'm curious to see this guy's style, too, I won't lie! Hunk says. I always wish I'd gotten a chance to get to know you at the Garrison, but you were older, a Commander's kid...]
[Matt grins, leading everyone out the door... until he realizes he doesn't know where the kitchen is, and drops back to let Hunk lead.]
Pfff. Honestly, there wasn't much advantage to being Dad's kid other than a lot of self-doubt about whether I accomplished what I did because of Dad or myself. [A small shrug.] And, well, I'd like to get to know you too, considering how highly Pidge thinks of you.
[Pidge blushes and gives Matt a dirty look, while Hunk just shrugs.
I'm just a guy who wanted to be an engineer, really! Still not sure how I ended up a Paladin, back home I could barely fly a simulator without barfing! Though a lot of that was Lance's fault.]
Matt told me about some of the engineers he knew on Earth. Knowing how to build it and make it work is a lifesaving skill!
[Yeah, I'd rather be the one fixing the plane if something happened! But they made us all take the flight class, Hunk says, then shrugs. Yellow's probably the only one I'll ever be able to fly without freaking out or getting sick. Oh, well!]
And I can't fly anything, honestly. Shiro told me once that he'd never seen anyone who literally couldn't get the ship off the ground. I'll stick to comms, thanks.
[He's a bit pink in the cheeks, but shrugs. Keith is a pilot. He can just have his boyfriend fly him places.]
Not everyone's a pilot, and that's more than ok. Doesn't mean you're less important than anyone else.
[Krolia knows, and she's always quick to reassure him that he's not. And Keith will always think he's amazing and belongs there, because they belong together.
Hunk is soon leading Keith and Matt to the kitchen, already chattering away about Garrison memories to give Keith a little more history.]

Well, now that we've all bonded over laser sounds, what does this castle have for food? I'd like to make some dinner for everyone, if that's ok.
no subject
I bet whatever you cook will be great, Matt.

[He blushes a bit.]
My usual impulsiveness has made me forget that I'm not used to cooking for like... ten. Um. Mostly I'd need some chopping and maybe stirring. Um.

[Matt never really questioned too much what he mother got up to.]

[He knows he's rambling, but at the moment, he doesn't care. Glancing over at Keith, he laughs.]
Oh, man. Yeah. Um. that was a huge disaster.

[It was my own fault, Krolia says, I was telling some of them about Earth dishes and I got a bit homesick...so Antok tried to make me feel better.]
Food goo is not meant to be melted directly into a pan.

[Realization dawns on Matt and he looks utterly horrified.]
Ok, I don't think I want to eat any of that for a long time.

When I finally get to see Earth, remind me not to have any, either.

[Matt shivers, reaching over and taking Keith's hand.]
Yeah. Uh. Let's change the subject.

[He grins towards Hunk, then raises an eyebrow at his sister. Interesting.]
And don't discount a good engineer. There have been many times that an engineer has saved the butts of everyone else on the mission.

[Exactly! Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, but they're still shining stars in my eyes! Coran says cheerfully.]
no subject
Yeah, something like that.
[He feels like a third wheel a lot with the Blade, but he hasn't really told anyone about that. Keith and Krolia probably know, but... yeah.]
Good place to end?
Hunk is soon leading Keith and Matt to the kitchen, already chattering away about Garrison memories to give Keith a little more history.]
Perfect.
