[As the son of two Blades, Keith grew up with a strong sense of justice and a drive to protect others. However, one thing he has that neither of his parents do is...quite the temper on him. They always taught him to solve problems firmly but civilly. Call it out, but don't attack the aggressor and give them more of a reason to act out.
Keith hasn't quite gotten the grasp of that, so when he sees a young Altean being mocked by some bigger Alteans, he's quick to spring into action. He grabs the ringleader by the arm and holds him in a deathgrip, causing the boy to yelp.
He's taller than Keith, but Keith looks bigger and scarier. Especially with his eyes glowing dangerously and his fangs on display.]
I've seen you around. You're mean to everyone who isn't pure-blooded, and that's just stupid. Besides, being pure-blooded doesn't make you any better, no one even likes you cause you're a showoff and a big jerk!
[Let go of me, you purple cat freak! the kid whines. Guys, do something! But his flunkies are backing off nervously, whimpering apologies to Matt lest this big angry kitty hurt them, too. The ringleader stomps his foot, wriggles free, and storms off.
I'm telling! You're gonna get in big trouble! Keith just rolls his eyes and watches the brats run off, then goes to Matt's side.]
[Matt's never been a fighter. If anything he's about the opposite. He's a scientist, and an alchemist, and most of the time he doesn't really care. However, sometimes other people try to make a big deal about it, and this is one of those times.
He's huddled over himself, startled by the Galra coming to his defense. Not that their two races don't get along, but it isn't often that a full-blood Galra bothers with a half-breed anything.
A small smile spreads across his face as he shrugs just a bit. At the moment, his nose is bleeding, but it'll be fine soon enough.]
Yeah. Nothing too bad. Just a bloody nose. Thanks.
Carter's just a pain in the ass overall. He's General Hira's kid and General Hira's apparently old friends with Principal Sanda, so he thinks that makes him better than anyone here. All he has to do is whine and Sanda's immediately on his side.
[If he does tattle, it wouldn't be the first time he's gotten Keith in hot water.]
Oh...er, I'm Keith. Son of Heath and Krolia of the Blades.
[He blushes, taking Matt's hand and shaking it. He knows Sam and Colleen peripherally through his adoptive brother Shiro, Kind Alfor's chief guard, but Keith's own life is tied up in Blade business and keeping the Galra safe and grounded.]
It's nice to meet-
[Uh-oh. He hears brisk, angry footsteps coming closer and closer, he knows the sound of Principal Sanda's feet anywhere.
Keith Kogane! You're coming to my office at once!]
[Carter just told me that this little troublemaker grabbed him, threw him onto the ground, and pointed a knife at his throat! Sanda snaps. I may understand why he must carry that troublesome thing everywhere, but that gives him no excuse to harm a student!
Keith clenches his fists and stays quiet, because he knows trying to claim his innocence only makes her more convinced of his guilt. That's how it's always been between him and Sanda, so why bother?]
[Sanda's quiet for a long moment, pursing her lips.
Hmph. You've never lied to me once since I've known you, Matthew, and your teachers say you're almost honest to a fault. So if you say this boy did nothing wrong, I suppose I have no choice but to believe you.
She may also be a bit angry at Carter now, because lying about dangerous assaults is a serious offense. Relationship to Hira be damned, she may end up yelling at him.
Fine, Kogane, you're off the hook this time. She turns on her heel and leaves quickly, Keith exhaling and loosening his fist as he turns to Matt.]
[There's a smile on his face, and he bows just a bit, watching her go. Turning to Keith, he smiles.]
Of course! I don't want you to get in trouble for defending me. Besides, it's the truth. I have no clue where he got that you pulled a knife, but that's so not true.
[Halloween's on Friday this year, and no homework! Maybe the teachers just forgot to assign it, maybe they're getting into the spirit. But hey, Keith isn't complaining, he and Matt made some major plans. First stop? Starbucks for some Halloween-themed drinks. Not in costume, though, because they're going right from school.]
I know it's become overplayed lately, but I like pumpkin spice. It smells good, anyway.
[Matt grins. He's always been really fond of the fall, and the colors and slightly cooler temperatures. Waiting in line with Keith, he thinks for a moment, shrugging.]
Definitely one of those apple turnovers. Other than that, I'm not sure what I want to drink.
[Keith is more of a warm-weather person, but autumn just means it's time for warmer foods and blankets and sweaters. It's winter he's not too wild about.]
Same for me! The fritters look good, and so does the pumpkin bread, but Dad's looking forward to baking his pumpkin bread for me and Mom, so...
[Keith's already decided on a dark roast with six espresso shots to drink.]
[It looks good on him, too, makes him look softer and more handsome than usual.
Keith grins, placing his own drink order. Keith likes to order for himself most of the time...especially ever since Lance tried to "expand his horizons" by ordering him a drink with a shot of mango flavor. He meant well, he really did, but Keith ended up forcing half of it down because it was just too sweet.. But he knows and loves and trusts Matt, and Matt would never sneak mango into his food.]
[Keith laughs a little, his cheeks going pink as he raises his own cup. There's no clink cause cardboard, but it still makes him feel all warm and fuzzy.]
I guess it's because my birthday's in the fall, and that's also when my parents actually met. It makes them all warm and snuggly and it's hard not to get caught up in it.
That reminds me, I still wanna get you a belated gift.
[They'd met around mid-September, and Matt's birthday was one of the many things Keith learned about him very quickly after they became friends.]
Shiro's is in February, but I think it was in September or October that he and Adam met, so he's got the connection bad. And April's a pretty nice time of year...not as rainy as the old poem claims it is.

Don't worry about it staining, Altean detergents can handle anything. And the fabric is dark anyway.

I'll get it washed for you. Really, though, thanks for chasing them away. Usually they just... have their fun and leave eventually.

Which makes no sense. Dad's one of Alfor's closest advisors, but I don't think that makes me better than anyone. I have to make my own way.

PERFECT. Kosmo fathers some puppies and Keith insists Matt and his family have first pick
Yessssssss. They get one who wasn't as much born as teleported out of its mama.
Kosmo's wife has the easiest birth ever
She really does.
